Second Run of the Post Season

I woke up at 6:00 to hear my alarm on my cell phone going off, I reached over and grabbed it quickly and turned it off. I lay in bed for a few more minutes wondering if I was actually going to get up and run. I had only had five hours of sleep and quite honestly, I really didn't feel like running. I asked myself if I was going to be a wimp or be strong today, and I decided that I was going to be strong. I got up, and got ready to go. KM and AK who are my track teammates got up too, and we all went running.

We ended up running pretty much the same circuit that I ran yesterday, and this time I ran it twice, but we added a part on so it was pretty close to the same amount I ran yesterday. AK ran one circuit and quit and KM ran the first one, then went inside to get a drink and then came back out and ran farther with me.

I ended up running 5.7.....not good news. I was supposed to be limiting myself to only 4 or 5 miles, but I couldn't do it. My problem isn't getting the motivation to run once I am out there, it is getting up and actually going, but once I get outside, I am home free and can't hardly stop.

The run was pretty good. It was a little hotter today, but the overall temperature was nice. My legs were a little tired, but at least I didn't have to deal with that pizza today. I ended up having a salad last night, and let me tell you, it is much easier to run on a salad than it is running on pizza.

Tomorrow I will have to go less, but knowing me I will probably end up going the same amount or more. I can't go too far too soon or I will end up doing what I did to myself last summer, which was getting a stress fracture in my femur...not fun stuff. It sucked soooo much, it was one of the worst experiences ever, I was dying to run, but I couldn't run at all and I was limping really badly. I ended up missing out on pretty much the whole cross country season which was a shame because cross country is my favorite sport and I trained 6 days a week pretty much all last summer for it.

Hopefully things work out better this summer, and I actually get to run during the season. I have to go get ready to go watch our sprint med. run at state, so I am out.

Post Track Season Run

Today was my first run after the track season ended. I was only going to run 3 or 4 miles, but I ended up running 6.22 at an 8:05 mile pace. It was one of those days where it was perfect running conditions: cool temperature, early in the morning, and it was just the roads and I. I ended up going a little after six in the morning, which is very unusual for me, because I am one of those people that like to stay up really late and get up late.

I didn't run that far the whole track season, the highest we ever got up to was 6. The last two weeks we were tapering so my mileage never got over 4 miles a day. It was a change to go from running 2-4 miles a day, to jumping back up to six.

I have to admit that the first few miles sucked which was due to the fact that I ate half a pizza the night before. My coach challenged me to finish my half and I can't back down from challenges. So I did it, even though the pizza stopped tasting good and I was stuffed. After the first few miles, things got better though, and it felt good.

We are actually at the state meet right now and are staying in a hotel, so I was unfamiliar with the area I was running in. I ended up running a circuit around the various hotels in this area, and I ran it 3 times because it was a 2 mile circuit.

After hitting the 4th mile, I decided that I was going to go 5, then once I was approaching the 5 mile mark, I decided I was going to go 6. I didn't have time to go any more than 6, because we were supposed to be getting ready to go watch our teammates run at the state meet. So I quit at 6, and I felt really good afterwards.

Tomorrow, I am probably going to go run even earlier because I decided that I like running early in the morning. I was thinking that I would probably run 8 because I enjoyed my 6 today, and am dying to go more, but I thought it would be a bad idea to run far two days in a row, and I talked to my coach about it, and he said it was a bad idea too. I am going to try and limit myself to only 4 or 5 tomorrow, but it will be a struggle. Running is my addiction, I love how it makes me feel, and it is great to get away from everything and just go run. My friends don't get why I run and it is almost impossible to explain it to people who are non-runners.

I have started making running work for me, instead of me working for it. Pretty much I have found motivation within myself, and I haven't had to force myself to go run. It is a lot easier when you are running because you actually want to, not because you are forcing yourself too. This is my favorite time of the year to run because it is in between track and cross country seasons, so for a few weeks I can run at whatever pace I want to without having to actually train for the upcoming season.

I am looking forward to running again tomorrow.
